Over the past several years the company has taken cognizance of the value of education as fundamental in poverty alleviation and in improving the quality of life of the Filipino. As such it has adopted education as the centerpiece of its community development projects.
Along this line, it has forged strategic partnership with academic institutions and NGO’s for student-in-plant training and trade skills development. The company has a tie-up with Dualtech Center in Canlubang, Laguna for students enrolled in electro-pneumatics and hydraulics. The company also partnered with the University of the Philippines at Los Baños, MSU - Iligan Institute of Technology, Batangas State University, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, and Letran College Calamba for an expanded student in-plant training program.
UGC has also established a Scholarship Grant in a state university in La Union for a college education in Engineering and other technical courses for deserving high school graduates who belong to economically disadvantaged families in the province.
Similarly in response to the perennial problem of insufficient school facilities notably classroom desks in public elementary schools, in cooperation with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and the Pres. Corazon C. Aquino School Desk Project, UGC has been regularly distributing school desks for selected public elementary schools throughout the country.
